We’re glad you asked! Ashiatsu is a massage technique using deep strokes from the massage therapists’ bare (and squeaky clean) feet. It is a western version of an ancient form of bodywork, with roots dating back thousands of years from cultures across Asia, India, Africa and the Pacific Rim.
During your appointment, you’ll relax into a massage table, just as you would do during a traditional massage. Your therapist will stand on the table and hold onto overhead bars for balance. Using her feet and gravity, you’ll experience the dreamiest deep tissue work you have ever felt.
It's not unusual to feel some soreness after a massage. This is due to a release of lactic acid in the muscles, but it doesn't last long. You may also have some discomfort during your massage. This depends on the area we're working on, any pre-existing pains, and whether the therapist is using too much pressure. You can always ask the therapist to use less pressure at any time if it’s too uncomfortable.
Anyone can receive a massage, however we will not massage you if:
• Any breast/pectoral/gluteal/calf implants or any form of augmentation/enhancement within nine months.
• Recent eye procedures/Lasik surgery within 72 hours.
• History of Tuberculosis, thrombosis, aneurysm, or ongoing kidney disorders.
• Currently going through radiation therapy treatments.
• Knee, hip, spine, shoulder, or major joint surgeries within 6 weeks.
• Current flare-up of phlebitis or cellulitis.
• Any rib or any bone fracture/break within 6 months.
Ashiatsu is "deeper than deep tissue," please note this if your idea of a dreamy massage is light and fluffy.
